Islamic State of Afghanistan 1992

Islamic State of Afghanistan 1992

Burhanuddin Rabbani was re-elected as President on 2 December for another two years and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar became prime minister. The new government however soon splintered into rival factions led by Rabbani and Hekmatyar. A flag based on that of the exile government, but with the black and green stripes reversed, was adopted on 2 December 1992. The arms was based on previous pre-communist models with inscriptions of the “Shahada”, the Muslim Article of Faith, the date 1371 (= 1992) and the country's name.
