Around Herat, western Afghanistan

Musalla Complex

The Musalla Complex in a field outside Herat, four broken minarets, all that remains of a Gowhar Shad's Madrassa, an Islamic religious school near Herat, dating from 1417 and destroyed by the British in 1834. Tents of Kuchi nomads are perched nearby.
