The Republic of Karakalpakstan

Tombs, Mizdakhan

A series of tombs in Mizdakhan, once the second-largest city in Khorezm. First inhabited in the 4th century BCE until Timur destroyed it in the 14th century CE. But it remained a sacred place and tombs and mosques continued to be built here right up to the 20th century.
