Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, 1924

When the Uzbek SSR was created on 27 October 1924, Soviet Tajikistan was created at the same time within the predominantly Turkic Uzbek SSR as an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the Tajik ASSR - Tajiks speak an Eastern Iranian language. A separate red flag was created, featuring in the canton the State Coat of Arms of the Tajik ASSR consisting of a hammer and sickle in the rays of the golden sun, surrounded by a branch of cotton and a wreath of wheat ears with a white star on an orange background. On a red ribbon is the abbreviation of the name in Russian, Tadzh.A.S.S.R. and at the bottom, in Russian: “Workers of all countries, unite!”. At the top is the same inscription in Uzbek in Yanga imlâ Arabic lettering. The emblem, identical to the one of the Uzbek SSR apart from the country’s name, was changed in 1929 just prior it being detached from the Uzbek SSR and becoming the Tajik SSR on 5 December 1929.
