Bukhara: towards the outskirts

Decoration, Fayzulla Khojaev House

Traditional Bukharan ornamentation and design in the rooms in the house of Fayzulla Khojaev (Fayzullo Xo'jaev, 1896-1938). It is now a museum honouring his memory. In 1916 -1920 he was one of the leaders of the Young Bukharan Party (Jadids) against the corrupt rule of the Emir of Bukhara. He and a friend called for the adoption of a constitution and reforms, but they had to flee; he returned after the Emir fled in September 1920 when the Red Army overthrew his administration.
