Bukhara: the historic centre

Kalyan minaret rotunda

The top of the Kalyan minaret with its sixteen-arched rotunda - skylight, based on a magnificent stalactite cornice (sharafa). The minaret, largely for traditional and decorative purposes, is the most famed part of the Po-i-Kalyan (Uzbek: Poi Kalon, “The Foot of the Great”), an Islamic religious complex located in the historic part of Bukhara.
