An iNtfwasa graduation Ceremony in 1972 - Day 2

March from village

Initiate “tangoma” or diviners, a red cloth around their shoulders symbolising the blood of the “emaNdzawe” ancestors (or Ndau, a tribe in Mozambique that had been killed by the Swazi in the 19th century), are led by senior tangoma to the river for further rituals. A man carries bowls in which the blood of chickens will be collected.
