The iNcwala or First Fruits Ceremony in 1970

Boy with emacembe

A boy collects “emacembe”, the leaves of the “mbondvo” shrub that will be used to close the gaps in the “inhlambelo”, the sacred enclosure in the cattle byre of Lobamba where iNcwala rituals will be held. This is better suited for younger boys as they collect the leaves around Lobamba and don't have to walk far.
