The uMhlanga or Reed Dance

The King and guests

His Majesty King Sobhuza II with guests, including King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu of Zululand, seated between the King and Prime Minister Prince Makhosini, and the Paramount Chief of the Ndebele (from South Africa). They watch the “uMhlanga” or Reed Dance in Lobamba, the Royal capital. Traditionally, the King may choose one of the maidens as his new wife. The Zulu king married Mantfombi Dlamini, a daughter of King Sobhuza II, that year.
