The uMhlanga or Reed Dance

Princesses and reeds

The “Bantfwabenkosi” or princesses take the lead carrying bundles of reed during the “uMhlanga” ceremony. Young unmarried girls bring these reed bundles to repair fences in the kraal of the “Ndlovukati” or Queen Mother in Lobamba, the Royal capital.
