Wa State

The Wa, a Mon-Khmer people living in Shan State on the border with China, have strived for their own state since independence and the United Wa State Army, estimated at 30,000 and allegedly involved in the narcotics trade, runs the unrecognised Wa State on the Chinese border. Their flag is a red-blue-red triband with a white eight-pointed star in its centre.
