Republic of Kawthoolei

The Karen have always aspired to their own independent country, Kawthoolei, covering what is today Kayin State and other regions where their people live. Their flag is displayed at occasions as Karen New Year and consists of stripes of red-white blue (with the white stripe sometimes twice as wide as the other ones) with a blue panel at the hoist depicting a red sunrise. A yellow drum has recently been added to the design.
