Ayeyarwady Region, formerly Ayeyarwady Division or Irrawaddy Division is the delta region of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawady) River. It has an area of 35,140 km² and a population is over 6.5 million, making it the most populous of Burma’s states and regions. The capital city is Pathein. The flag shows an orange map of the region superimposed on blue and white waves representing the river and the region's name “Eyawedi tain” in white Burmese script.
