Bago, a former capital

Zedi base

Around the large zedi (stupa) of Shwemawdaw Paya. The temple has suffered earthquakes during its life and was reconstructed from 1952 to 1954. A section of a “hti”, the umbrella-like pinnacle that is at the top of the zedi and was toppled by an earthquake in 1917, is mounted in the structure at the base of the stupa.
