Music and Dance of Mongolia

Yatga and Khöömii

Singing and playing the Yatga or Yatuga, a half-tube zither during a performance of traditional music by the Erdene Zuu Group in the dining room of Mönkhsuuri Tourist Ger Camp near Kharkhorin. They are also accompanied by Khöömii “throat singing”, the Mongolian overtone singing where two or more distinct pitches are sung at the same time, producing an almost whistling sound.
