Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty

Sureung, Donggureung

Sureung, the Royal joint burial mound of posthumous Emperor Munjo and Queen Sinjeong at Donggureung. King Munjo (1809-1830) acted as regent when he was Crown Prince Hyomyeong. He died at age 22 and was posthumously named King Ikjong in 1834 with the enthronement of his son, King Heonjong. Later during the Great Han Empire (proclaimed in October 1897, after the Joseon dynasty officially exited the Imperial Chinese tributary system) he was promoted as King Munjo.
