Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul

Sujeongjeon

Sujeongjeon, a hall within Gyeongbokgung Palace, rebuilt in 1867 on the site of Jiphyeonjeon, the Hall of Worthies, originally built by King Sejong (1418–1450) and the site where Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, was invented. The place was visited by the king so frequently that a double stone platform was built in front as a mark of respect. It was used as the cabinet office during the reform movement of 1894.
