Along the Malecón, Havana

Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta

The Fortress of San Salvador de la Punta was designed to protect the entrance to Havana Bay, which had become an important and strategic entranceway to the harbour after settlement of the town. In 1559 lookouts were posted at La Punta, as a direct result of the events of 1555, when the French corsair Jacques de Sores had attacked and burned the town.
