Along the Flinders Highway, Queensland

Grand Hotel, Hughenden

Grand Hotel, a typical wooden hotel in the town of Hughenden, 243 kilometres west of Charters Towers along the Flinders Highway. In front of it stands a life-size model of “Mutt”, a replica of the Muttaburrasaurus Langdoni herbivore that roamed the shores of the inland sea where Hughenden now stands. Numerous fossil finds have been found around here and “Mutt” was donated by the Museum of Tropical Queensland in recognition of the numerous dinosaur fossils that have been taken away from the area. It was unveiled on 4 December 1999.
