The Tiwi Islands - Melville Island

Grave, Karslake

Carved and painted “Pukumani poles” left during the burial of a Mungatopi elder are typical of the people living on the Tiwi islands. Personal effects of the deceased are also left behind. This site is in Karslake, Milikapiti (Snake Bay), on Melville Island.
