Aboriginal Marndiwala Initiation Ceremonies in Borroloola

Start of initiation

Young Yanyuwa boys are prepared for their “Marndiwala” initiation ceremony in Borroloola, near the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria. While the men sing, hairstring (made from human hair) is tied around the waist of the boy on the right.
